Gorrety Wawire, Teaching Assistant
Gorrety Wawire joined the IEP in Fall 2015. She is originally from Kenya and has been part of the University of Mississippi since 2015. She received her B.Ed (Arts) in English and Literature at Kenyatta University in Kenya. She served as a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant at Southern University and A&M College, where she was a Swahili primary instructor. Currently she is a master’s student in the Linguistics department. She is also a teaching assistant in the Intensive English Program. Her commitment involves improving the standards of language education, implementing new language teaching methodologies, developing and conducting evaluation in Kenyan educational institutions and international educational organizations. She has interests in multilingual literacies, literacy and language planning, second language acquisition and classroom discourse. She enjoys reading, travelling, volunteering and mentoring young girls and women in the marginalized communities.
